Re-imaging:  Just Do it…

"Corporations do not speak in the same voice as [the] new networked conversations. To their intended online audiences, companies sound hollow, flat, literally inhuman. In just a few more years, the current homogenized 'voice' of business - the sound of mission statements and brochures - will seem as contrived and artificial as the language of the 18th century French court. Already, companies that speak in the language of the pitch, the dog-and-pony show, are no longer speaking to anyone."
- The Cluetrain Manifesto

Re-imaging your organization is sometimes a necessary process to ensure you keep the interest of your clients and stay competitive in your industry.  This process does not always flow as smoothly as planned.  Does the phrase “New Coke” ring a bell?  Re-imaging can range from making a few simple changes to doing a complete brand overhaul of not just logos and slogans, but a whole re-branding with marketing strategy and advertising themes as well.  When it comes time to make a change however, DAV can help.  Most recently The Willow Creek Association has chosen to re-image for its upcoming A2 Conference and DAV is in the driver’s seat.

The WCA produces a dozen major conferences a year from their South Barrington, IL, location and all over the world.  The organization has given DAV Productions full creative license to produce hard-hitting videos that will help reinvent this year’s conference, providing a modern look and feel to their promotional and event messaging videos.  The October conference will also revolve around 5 case studies from around the country, which has kept our production team on the road and busy in the editing suites.  We’ve traveled to Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, Austin and Montclair, New Jersey, to cover the subjects and through the re-imaging process, attendees will hopefully use the case studies and apply them to their own experiences.

What this shows us is that a simple change in your media content can re-energize your meeting or conference, and give your event that often sought-after contemporary feel.  Whether that change includes using new motion graphics or an edgier style of video production, the saying stands true:  “A little bit goes a long way.”  Take that little bit and give your customers, vendors and attendees an event that will leave them wanting more.

WHAT’S NEW:
What has DAV been up to lately? Even though summer in nearly finished, we still have visions of beaches dancing in our heads.

GN Resound.  The Beach Boys, that is.  GN Resound North America held their annual client appreciation event in Carlsbad, CA, and we were there to provide event production and coordination.  Entertainment for the event was provided by the incomparable surf legends, the Beach Boys, who performed with special guest John Stamos.  We created a stage in the middle of the beach on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, including lights, sound and production coordination.  The highlight of the seaside event was provided by the U.S. Marines, who ascended from the Pacific Ocean in 3 amphibious vehicles.

Willow Creek Association.  Southern California is not the only place we’ve been traveling to lately. Our staff has racked up their frequent flyer miles with shoots in Texas, Oklahoma, New Jersey and Illinois, all in the last month. These shoots highlight unique churches in a wide variety of communities for an upcoming international conference in Chicago.

University of Illinois Commercial.  While in Illinois, we headed to the campus at the University of Illinois to shoot a national television spot for the school. The spot is scheduled to be played during all Illini football and basketball games this year.  There are six Illini Alumni working at DAV so working on this project was even more special.  Click here to watch the commercial.

On The Air.  Finally, DAV has taken to the airwaves. Vice President and COO, Ben Brownback, and Media Production Manager, Jae Thiele, were guests on Mort Roberts’ Business Focus, a weekly show that airs on KNEWS 970AM. The show gave Ben and Jae a chance to highlight DAV’s philosophy and capabilities to an audience of local business owners and meeting planners. Business Focus airs each Sunday at 10:05am on 970AM.

Stryker Mid-Year Sales Meeting.  DAV Productions assisted with Stryker Corporations Mid Year Meeting at the Marriott in downtown Chicago.  The highlight of the program was the first use of DAV’s Chloroplast stage set design

STAFF PICKS - BEN'S FAVORITE WAYS TO STAY COOL WHILE IN LAS VEGAS.

Everyone knows that when you come to Las Vegas in the summer, you should expect to deal with the heat.  With averages well above 100 degrees during the summer months, we've found just a few ways to try and stay cool in the heat.

5.  The Fountains at the Bellagio.  One of the best shows in Vegas is this $35 million water spectacle that plays--or should we say sprays?--in front of the opulent Bellagio resort. The musical accompaniment runs the gamut--from Sinatra to Pavarotti--but the spraying jets of water, all backlit by bright white lights, are guaranteed to enchant folks of all ages. Shows are every 30 minutes from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., more frequently after 8 p.m.  We suggest grabbing some ice cream or gellato, head down in front of the lake on Las Vegas Blvd. and enjoy a few shows!  Hopefully there will be a little wind and you can catch some of that spray!

4.  Indoor Skydiving.  At Flyaway, America's first vertical wind tunnel, you can break the bonds of gravity and body fly. Flyaway Indoor Skydiving gives you the chance to test your skills of human flight during a single flight session or as a participant in a personalized coaching program. Flyaway Indoor Skydiving is a popular training resource for sport skydivers, competition teams and military units. Our body flight experience can be your resource for corporate team-building programs and high adventure recreational groups.

3.  Mandalay Bay Pool.  With a wave pool, sandy beach, lazy river pool and lots of drinks, what else could you ask for?  This pool is for hotel guests, but you can buy a day pass and enjoy the pool like a tourist if you'd like!

2.  Mount Charleston.  Mt. Charleston is less than an hour's drive from the bright lights and excitement of the Las Vegas Strip. Anyone who enjoys good clean air, spectacular views and the serenity of the mountain atmosphere,\ will find this a most rewarding trip. No matter what one's outdoor pleasures are, these panoramic ranges provide a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. Area residents find the Mt. Charleston Recreation Area to be a welcome relief from the summer heat of the Las Vegas Desert.

Mt. Charleston, at an incredible elevation of 11,918 feet, is truly the centerpiece of the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area. Located in the Toiyabe National Forest, this 316,000 acre recreational area offers some of the most incredible scenery, picnicking, camping, hiking and skiing available in the southwestern United States.

You will be truly amazed as you experience the breathtaking beauty of these towering peaks as they seem to stand guard over the desert floor of The Las Vegas Valley.

. . . and our favorite way to stay cool in the 117 degree heat is . . .

1.  Lake Mead National Recreation Area.  Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA) offers a wealth of things to do and places to go year-round. Its huge lakes cater to boaters, swimmers, sunbathers, and fishermen while its desert rewards hikers, wildlife photographers, and roadside sightseers. Three of America's four desert ecosystems--the Mojave, the Great Basin, and the Sonoran Deserts--meet in Lake Mead NRA. As a result, this seemingly barren area contains a surprising variety of plants and animals, some of which may be found nowhere else in the world.

If you've ever visited Las Vegas or hung out a significant amount of time with either of us, you'd know how much we love boating . . . chances are we've either offered or taken you out on the lake.  If we haven't, let us know when you're ready to go and we'd be happy to take you for a sunset cruise or a day on the lake (if we're in town!!).

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE TAPE BALL??
When visiting DAV Productions' headquarters in Las Vegas, many of our production friends are amazed at our Tape Ball.  For those not familiar with what a tape ball is, check out the photo to the left.  When equipment from shows returns to its home in Las Vegas, the tape used to mark the show name and client is removed and added to the tape ball.  If you've done a show with us, I'm sure there's a piece of gaff tape with your name on it somewhere in there!

Tape Ball Vitals
Birthday:  Not quite sure, but it was born sometime in late 2002
